From January 1, 2026, an incoming foreign tourist needs health and accident insurance for the full stay unless an official exemption applies. This guide explains Resolution No. 602 and the checks to make before travel.
What has changed since January 1, 2026?
Government Resolution No. 602 sets the minimum insurance standard for incoming foreign tourists. Cover must run from entry until departure, for no more than one year. An authorised Patrol Police officer may check the policy at a border crossing.
Who needs insurance?
The requirement applies to incoming foreign tourists. Official exemptions include holders of diplomatic or special visas and passports, accredited staff and family members, people covered by international agreements, and drivers engaged in international freight or passenger transport. Check Resolution No. 602 if your status is unclear.
Minimum Requirements
The policy must cover health and accidents for the full stay and provide at least 30,000 GEL of insurance cover. It may be issued by an authorised Georgian or foreign insurer and presented on paper or electronically in Georgian or English. Check the terms of the specific plan before payment.
What happens without insurance?
An authorised Patrol Police officer may check the policy at the border crossing. Prepare it before travel and verify the insurer, traveller name, territory, dates, risks, limits, and assistance details.
How to quickly apply?
Choose a plan and dates, enter the passport details, review the current total, and pay online. After successful payment and insurer issue, the PDF policy is sent by email.
