Urgent travel insurance for Georgia: can you buy it before departure or at the border?

Since 1 January 2026, a tourist entering Georgia must hold valid health and accident insurance. The policy must cover the whole stay, including arrival and departure dates. The practical deadline is therefore early enough to receive the document, read it, and correct any mistake before you travel.

A successful payment is not the same as an issued policy. Wait for the PDF and check the name in Latin letters, passport number, territory, dates, insured risks, and a total limit of at least GEL 30,000. Keep an offline copy on your phone; the entry rules accept an electronic or paper policy in Georgian or English.

The rules allow the responsible officer to check your policy at the checkpoint, but they do not promise a round-the-clock insurance desk at every airport or land border. Weak data coverage, a passport typo, or delayed issuance can become a real problem. If you are already travelling, complete the purchase before reaching control and verify the actual policy first.

Enter the real travel dates and each traveller's details carefully, then read the start time shown in the issued document. Insurance does not cover an event that happened before cover began. If the email is delayed, check spam and the order status, then contact support instead of creating several duplicate orders.

Confirm five things: the PDF has been issued; every traveller is listed; passport data is exact; the dates span the full stay; and the document states the right territory, risks, and limit. At that point you have a travel-ready policy, not merely a payment receipt.
