Driving a foreign-registered vehicle in Georgia

A foreign-registered vehicle needs compulsory third-party liability cover for its stay in Georgia. This covers certain harm to other people and property; it is not cover for damage to your own car or a substitute for personal travel insurance.

For entry-related questions, the issued insurance policy is the controlling document for exact coverage, limits, dates, exclusions, and insurer terms.

01
Chapter 1

Choose the vehicle category and period

The Compulsory Insurance Center's published tariff for a passenger car up to 3,500 kg with no more than eight passenger seats is 30 GEL for 15 days, 50 GEL for 30 days, 90 GEL for 90 days or 295 GEL for one year. Other vehicle classes have different tariffs. Check the current tariff before purchase.

02
Chapter 2

Enter the details carefully

The electronic policy must identify the vehicle and the insurance dates. The Center warns that errors in the identification or registration details together with the category can invalidate a policy. Review the number plate, VIN or frame number, category and dates before paying.

03
Chapter 3

After a road accident

The Center's rules require the driver to notify both 112 and the Center promptly and normally remain at the scene. The injured party generally has 60 calendar days to submit a claim, subject to the terms and procedural exceptions. Keep the policy and accident documents.
